Desperately Seeking Commissions
I have added something new in the sidebar. I am shamelessly advertising myself as a portrait artist. As if anyone can afford portraits at the moment. There is job scything going on all over the world and I, in my frilly silly way, am convinced that I can sell non-essentials like portraits.
But a girl's gotta start somewhere. Right?
And children! I can paint children! Honest!
I wear far too many hats I think. Between illustrating kooky little drawings, painting strange spirally abstract things that shine (which appeal to the magpie in me) and now this idea of portraiture, I can't help but wonder if I'm giving off a pheremone of desperation?
Bueller?

That's a gorgeous portrait! Will you do my cats? Seriously!
Cats? I'd never thought about doing pet portraits.
Your cats are fuzzy, right? That sounds like a CHALLENGE!
Uh...no, sounds to me like you're growing as an artist and person. Nutin' wrong with that.
As soon as I have money in the bank (don't hold your breath, but I live in perpetual hope), I will commission you to do a portrait of my two little girls (and possibly my ageing, beautiful and (mumble, mumble) overweight cat too). I love your work and feel wretched at being too poor to buy any, commission any...
There's nothing wrong with whoring all your assets;-)
No seriously, I think it is smart to showcase your range of talents in this way. Who knows what might come of it? Good luck with it all.
x
You all are too kind.
Shani: Yes, but it seems like the artists that get ahead focus on one thing. You know, like embalming sharks or unicorns. Sigh. I'm not sure if wearing too many hats is a good idea. If you aren't classable, then what? That has always been my problem actually. Not excelling at one thing, I feel like I stay "even steven" across the board and that nothing I do pops out. Course that could be just the insecure introvert in me talking...
Magic: No worries! Really!
Michelle: Who knows indeed. Fingers crossed.
Hey, if you are going to do cats are you going to do dogs? I would love to have a collection of Lily portraits done by different artists. Fifi Flowers did Lily's first portrait and I absolutely love it.
Do you have info on your site about what you charge for portraits?
It wouldn't be right to play favorites; putting one kind of animal over another. Though I think I might draw the line at pet rats. I'll have to think about that one...
Anyway, I put the particulars on Etsy if anyone is interested.
I would love to have you do a portrait of my kids together. Sadly, funds are lacking. But I won't forget this. And when funds aren't so lacking in the future (I say when as if it's a foregone conclusion, and yet...) I'm totally in for this.
Is that a self-portrait?
No worries.
And no. That isn't a self portrait. I cajoled a young woman I met on vacation to send me photos of herself because I was enamoured with her hair.
She sent me at least 30 photos! Some of them very strange and most of them "posed" (ie, sort of awful. She was quite the "ham"). I picked the one that was the most dreamy and natural (she was looking out a TGV window), painted it, sent her a jpg via email and never heard from her again.
Most strange.
What are we talking price wise? Mother's Day is coming up in Australia. Send me an e-mail: chris at afreeman dot org
Always liked this one... And I think you are super-productive these days and accomplishing SO much, Jenn! Am so proud of you and in awe and admiration...
