Wherein I am more than Mildly Annoyed at Apple Inc.

In Lyon I finally have access to high speed internet. I shrieked with delight at the idea of finally being able to download stuff from iTunes.

However, as I have a FRENCH home address, the iTunes store won't let me buy anything unless it's from the French iTunes site.

WHICH SUCKS! There's nothing of interest on that stupid site to an English speaker. NOTHING I TELL YOU! Hasn't APPLE EVER HEARD OF EXPATS hoping for a little bit of language relief?

GAR. And of course, the link to "SUPPORT" is a dead link.

I am shaking my fist to the sky at those stupid gits at Apple.

Does anyone out there have a work around? Is it based on IP addresses or home addresses? Can I use my mom's address in Canada to get around this if I open a different email account at hotmail or something?

Gar.

It's based on your home address, and it's not really iTunes fault - it's the record label companies & TV/film industry that restric sales to certain countries.

I still have a US bank account & address though, so I'm able to access iTunes US with that, from my home in France. I'm not sure if it's the address that's important or the bank account (or both).

pooh. at least I can load up on podcasts... but it's a hella annoying to know that I've bought something that I don't have full use of. And that's why I'm annoyed at Apple.

If it makes you feel any better, when I bought my mp3 player two years ago, I got about $100 worth of iTunes gift certificates, only to realize that Apple uses mp4 formatting so none of my songs could be played on the mp3 player I'd bought!!

That would indeed suck rocks.

And yes, it does make me feel better. I'm a terrible person.

That being said, I've spent the entire day scoping out free podcasts. Wow! There are tons out there that look absolutely brilliant. Hurray!

HOW BIZZARE!!!! I never even thought of that because I use a US address and have a US bank account.. but when I tunes asks for my computer password... to access ITUNES store (US) I had no idea that there was a French ITUNES store.. I just figured it was all American... Can you try to change any settings on your computer?? I also still use earthlink as my mailserver and that is US based, too!! Hmmm.. what if you opened a gmail/yahoo/hotmail.com account? Would that do anything different?? Just wondering.. Good luck.. Leesa
